Star Wars Yoga: The Illustrated Edition

Wouldn’t it be funny if suddenly everyone who goes to your yoga classes started showing up dressed as Star Wars characters? I mean, that would shoot a laugh and giggle through the day like nothing else. I can’t help but feel a little sorry for R2-D2 however. That guy has to feel so out of place in one of these classes. That little thing is quite limited to what yoga positions he can bust out. Well, at least something good might come out of all this, maybe they could all just be friends once and for all. But wait! That would mean the end of all good things called Star Wars, wouldn’t it? I take that back! Oh, and of course you can purchase these fine yoga posters over at Rob Osborne’s Etsy page.

Vinyasa Yoga – How Flow Can You Go?

While K. Pattabhi Jois popularized Vinyasa yoga in the Western world, Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga, (Ashtanga meaning 8-limbed path in ancient yogic teachings) has arguably been around for centuries. In many circles, it is simply known as ‘flow’ yoga since the asana are practiced much like Surya Namaskara, or sun salutations, in a continuous flow from one movement to another coordinated with the breath. The great thing about a Vinyasa practice, or simply, flow, is that participants can get more of a cardiovascular workout, and while alignment and practicing asana correctly is vital, there is a freedom of movement not always apparent in other styles of yoga that many people enjoy.

A year of Teaching Yoga.

After three years of intense practice and a month of training at the ashram, I started the actual process of teaching at Eden Woods a residential complex at Thane a satellite city of Mumbai.

At the end of an year of teaching the journey has been amazing. All the training embedded into the system made me realize the importance of close observation and monitoring of each student. The fact that the age group at one point was as varied as 8 to 80, and with various medical conditions made the experience even more expansive.

However the most fulfilling experience is the gradual progress being made by the students, most of whom are enthusiastic to stretch, twist or bend. Experiencing the change, mentally emotionally and physically is very evident in almost all students and is a most gratifying experience and dear to me as a teacher.

This experience has now given me an opportunity of training and in a way healing students with some extreme difficult medical conditions. I now look forward to this amazing journey into my second year of teaching.
